Valentin P. Usachenko, Head of Hematological department in Crimean Republican Children Clinical Hospital. Born in 1955 in Ukraine, near town Cherkassy. Married, has two children. Graduated from Crimean Medical Institute in 1978. Worked as paediatrist at Southern Urals and Sakhalin. Started investigations in children hematologist in 1984. In 1991 was one of the first Ukrainian doctors who learned and applied in hematological department of Crimean Republican Children Clinics German know-how in treatment of acute lymphoblast leukemia of children. He obtained the results comparable with the ones of German clinics. Now 74% of children recover after the treatment (95% of death was normal before). Usachenko has practised in Germany twice, in 1991 and 1998 (children hematology). One of the founders (1993) of Ukrainian Leukemia Research Group. In 1998 he became the Laureat of Ukrainian award "Golden Fortune-98", for his achievements in health service organization for children and active public work (All-Ukrainian rating - The Best Doctor of the Year). |
| "St. Valentine's Day" is, in fact, the holiday from the Western calendar. But it seems to take roots in our country. And it happened that right that day, on 14 Febr., the chief of our department - VALENTIN Usachenko - was born!
Much can be told about the children's doctor based on the parents' attitude. Expensive gifts might be regarded as flattery... but poems composed specially for him, friendly caricatures are definitely the sign of love. Of our, parents', love. He is loved by all the parents, and by the smallest patients - they love our chief, our Valentine, our doctor. |
